Let’s talk about Matte Paint Care. It’s tough, you essentially have 3 options.

1. Completely wrap the vehicle in Matte Paint Protection Film

2. Install a Ceramic Coating

3. Live with imperfections/damage and follow a detailed wash regime

Due to the nature of Matte Paintwork, the Matte Clear Coat is more porous, so bug residue, tree sap, and other stains can quickly embed themselves into the finish. Without any form of protection, on a matte finish, you should NOT be allowing these substances to sit on your paintwork for more than 12 hours for risk of it permanently damaging the finish. A Ceramic Coating can certainly help with this and give you a longer “buffer” so to speak, but even with a ceramic coating, things happen and etchings will occur. The problem here is, with a Matte Finish, you can’t simply take out a machine polisher and remedy these defects. The act of polishing the surface, and sometimes even rubbing too hard with a harsh chemical can turn the finish glossy.

This is where XPEL STEALTH Paint Protection Film comes in. When the vehicle is new the paintwork can be fully wrapped (without altering the finish) and provide an 8mil thick Protection Film as a buffer, which is also removable in the event of any larger damage such as scrapes; revealing a completely defect-free and brand new paint surface underneath! Flat finishes are notoriously difficult to maintain and even harder to repair. XPEL STEALTH enables you to easily wash and dry your car without damaging its sheen. XPEL Stealth is Self-Healing, meaning, when exposed to heat, the enhanced clear coat properties eliminate fine scratches and swirl marks over time. XPEL STEALTH features the same superior impact protection as XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS back by their industry-leading 10 year warranty.

When you invest in paint protection film for your vehicle, you expect full coverage against rock chips, UV damage, and road debris. In Southwest Florida cities like Naples, Marco Island, and Fort Myers, those threats are constant. Intense sunlight, coastal humidity, sand, and road grime put continuous stress on your vehicle’s finish. What many vehicle owners do not realize is that the edges of paint protection film are typically the first area to show wear. Understanding why this happens helps set realistic expectations and, more importantly, helps you choose an installer who prioritizes long-term durability. In most cases, edge failure is not caused by the film brand alone. It is the result of material behavior, environmental exposure, and installation technique.
